The Australia-Japan Foundation, on behalf of the University of Tokyo (Komaba), seeks applications for the position of Visiting Professor, Australian Studies. The successful applicant will have a strong doctorate or background in the humanities or social sciences. The position, which is available for a period of between ten and twelve months, is a research and teaching position. The successful applicant would be expected to spend the greater majority of his/her time in Japan.
Teaching responsibilities will include an introductory Australian Studies course for 1st and 2nd year undergraduate students, a more advanced course for 3rd and 4th Year students, and interaction with graduate students. Research responsibilities will include giving a paper at a seminar of the Centre for Pacific and American Studies and writing an article in English for the Bulletin of the Centre. The position has no English Language teaching responsibilities.
Salary ranges from ¥602,000 per month to ¥ 724,000 per month depending on post graduate teaching experience. An accommodation allowance of approximately 130,000 yen per month will apply if lodging is rented through the university (no accommodation allowance will be paid in relation to any other form of lodging). Return airfares are provided for the successful applicant (not family members). Applications close on 8 February 2002.
